Inner City All-Stars

I love shooting for these guys. They're Dallas' premier New Orleans style brass band. Funk. Jazz. You name it, they do it...well. They recently asked me shoot some photos of them recording in-studio:

Calvin Sexton - bandleader/trombonist. This guy brings a lot of intensity.

Teriver - Guitarist

Hiroki - Drums

Scott - saxophonist (you've seen Scott here), and Eric Delegard's Grammy he received for his work with Brave Combo.

Brad - Trumpeter

Calvin's chops

Dave - Tuba/Sousa

If you haven't seen them live, do yourself the favor. They put on a show. See them. They've been nominated "Best Jazz Band" for the 2007 Dallas Observer Awards. Vote for them here.

Here's a video compilation of some of their shows. The still photos are shots I've taken at a few gigs:

Jasmine

I'm back from my weekend trip to the Brazos Valley even more tired than before I left. But the trade-off is that I got to spend tons of time with my 8-month-old niece, Jasmine, who was in town from Florida visiting the grandparents. I hadn't seen her since January. She's grown so much and has the cutest little grin I've ever seen:

Uncle 'Mayne is so much fun, if you didn't already know:

she'll be deadly soon:

I took most of these in extremely low available light with my 50mm 1.8, which is one of my favorites. It's light, cheap, and stupid sharp. But the extra speed of the 50mm 1.4 has me intrigued. When I was a beginner (way back!) I'd sometimes be perplexed at why pros would pay 2, 3, or 4 times more for an extra stop of light. But the more I do what I do, the more I'm exposed extreme lighting situations. A single stop could mean the difference between a shot in the can or a blurry mess. And nice bokeh can't be beat.

Ha...

This is somewhat (I do mean somewhat) humorous. The funny thing is that I've been thinking of offering some free profile picture sized files with my senior package. Lame???

Scott & Charnell

We finally got our respective schedules to click and were able to do the engagement session Sunday. And what a beautiful day:

light like this makes me look a whole lot better than I really am!

I can't wait to shoot their wedding. They're a lot of fun and Cozumel is the destination...I love my job.

Big Folio

The new website is VERY close to going live. I'm very excited. The guys at Big Folio have been great with the setup and everything. I love the template, as well. It's very close to being perfect for my needs: simple, functional, beautiful. I can't wait to go live. Stay tuned!

Charnell, Round 2

I got together with Charnell Bratton for another head shot session yesterday. She was needing some images that her newly acquired talent agent would be able to use. Here are some of my favorites:
